Native plant giveaway
City of Sydney residents can take home 2 free plants.
We’ve partnered with indigenous nursery IndigiGrow to offer 2 free native plants to households in our area, while stocks last.
The plants included are native to coastal Sydney. Many are part of the endangered Eastern Suburbs banksia scrub plant community which once covered Waterloo, Zetland, Beaconsfield and Rosebery. Plant types are available to suit different sized spaces and sunny or shady spots, including plants suitable for balcony pots.
Plants in the giveaway are tubestock, young plants that establish quickly once planted. They need regular watering for their first 6 weeks after planting.

- Open to City of Sydney residents. Find out about other councils participating in the giveaway.
- One registration per household.
- Pick-up only.
How to claim your free plants
- Complete the online registration form.
- Save your email confirmation (you’ll need to show this to nursery staff).
- Visit IndigiGrow

Why indigenous plants are good for everyone
- Local native plants are well adapted for local weather and soil.
- Native plants provide food and shelter sources for birds, bees, butterflies and all the other critters that call our city home. A network of different species of plants means our wildlife always has something to eat and somewhere to rest and nest.
- Connection to nature and exposure to greenery helps our health and wellbeing. One balcony might not fit enough shrubs to provide year-round food for bees, but a network of balconies can.
