Home library service

Free delivery

If you’re a resident who experiences challenges getting to and from your nearest library, we can help by bringing the library to you.

The City of Sydney provides a free service to deliver library items to people in their homes. This home library service is available for all residents who find it difficult to access their local library due to:

  • poor health
  • a disability
  • full-time caring obligations
  • a chronic condition
  • frailty.

If you’re recovering at home following an illness, injury or operation, we can provide a temporary home library service. We also provide the service to residents in care facilities.

What you can borrow

    • books
    • audiobooks on CD
    • music CDs
    • DVDs
    • magazines
    • language kits

You can also access the library’s full collection of digital resources including ebooks, eaudiobooks, emagazines and enewspapers, and stream music and films.

Our home library team can select items for you according to your preferences and specific requests. Or you can select what you want to borrow using the online library catalogue.

To join the home library service you must be a resident of the City of Sydney local area. Register with us first by telephone or email.
