English language & education programs

Adult Migrant English Program

Provides eligible migrants and humanitarian entrants with up to 510 hours of free English language learning. 

The Smith Family home tutor scheme

A service directed towards migrants and refugees who need further assistance to develop their English language skills for successful settlement in Australia. 

TAFE NSW Northern Sydney

Some asylum seekers or refugees who meet certain criteria are eligible to study at TAFE NSW, Northern Sydney with access to fee-free training for qualifications.

Provides practical and personal support for asylum seekers living in the community.

Australian Refuge Volunteers

Volunteer-run not-for-profit organisations that aims to improve the lives of children and families with monthly excursions for asylum seeker and refugee children and teens in Sydney. 

Bridge for Asylum Seekers Foundation

A coalition of organisations and people that provides financial support for asylum seekers on bridging or special category visas who are applying for permanent protection and residency in Australia. 

House of Welcome

Aims to welcome, shelter and empower asylum seekers and refugees, and provides client focused support.

Jesuit Refugee Service

An international Catholic organisation with a mission to accompany, serve and advocate on behalf of refugees and other forcibly displaced people.

Metro Assist

Provides a range of settlement and support services for communities and families.

Red Cross asylum seeker and refugees

Provides access to financial assistance and general health care for asylum seekers awaiting an outcome on their protection visa application. 

Red Cross international tracing service

Aims to re-establish contact between separated family members and clarify the fate of the missing.

Settlement Services International

Provides services in humanitarian settlement, accommodation, asylum seeker assistance, foster care and disability support.

Sydney Multicultural Community Services

Provides services for migrants and refugees in need of assistance settling in to the Australian community.

St Vincent de Paul refugee support services

Aims to work together with asylum seekers and refugees who are living in NSW and experiencing severe financial hardship and social isolation.

Legal help and advocacy

Amnesty International Australia

The refugee team supports asylum seekers by offering casework assistance and preparing supporting information for protection visa applications.

Immigration Advice and Rights Centre

A not-for-profit registered charity specialising in Australian immigration and refugee law and policy.

Justice Connect's MOSAIC service

MOSAIC (Migrant Outreach Services: Advice, Information, Community education) is a Justice Connect program providing free legal assistance and advocacy to refugees, asylum seekers and recently arrived migrants.

Legal Aid Commission of NSW

State-wide organisation providing legal services to socially and economically disadvantaged people.

Refugee Advice and Casework Service

Provides a free, specialist legal service for asylum seekers and refugees.

Refugee Council of Australia

Promotes the development of humane, lawful and constructive policies regarding refugees and asylum seekers. Please note the council does not provide legal help for individuals.

Salvos Legal Humanitarian

Provides free legal advice and assistance to financially or otherwise disadvantaged people in various areas of law including refugee law, immigration and citizenship.

Australian Human Rights Commission

Works to promote and protect the human rights of asylum seekers, refugees, and people in immigration detention.

Department of Immigration and Border Protection

Information about Australia's refugee and humanitarian program. 

Migration Review Tribunal and Refugee Review Tribunal

Conducts merit reviews of visa-related decisions made by the Australian Government.

NSW Refugee Health Service

Aims to promote the health of people from a refugee background living in NSW by assisting refugees and the health professionals who work with them.
