How I started this thing

How I started this thing is a series of stories from people who’ve received City of Sydney grants. They share their journey in their own words, along with handy tips on navigating the grant process.

Innovation grants

If you want to take action to improve the environmental performance of your building, the City of Sydney wants to support you.

We provide several types of grants that you can access to make Sydney a greener, more sustainable city.

Priorities this year are applications that provide immediate benefits to multiple parties, provide great examples of circular economy models that replace traditional linear ‘take, make, dispose’ models of production and increase the green economy.

Please see the grants and sponsorship guidelines for more information about program outcomes and eligibility. Please also see further documents including a sample budget and standard performance measures.

Feasibility studies

We fund feasibility studies that explore innovative environmental solutions with the potential to improve environmental performance.

Up to $20,000 is available in this category, with support to be matched by 25% or more cash or value in-kind from you.

Demonstration projects

We fund demonstration projects that prove practical solutions to reduce resource consumption. These need to be scalable solutions.

Up to $80,000 is available in this category, with funds to be matched by 50% or more cash or value in-kind from you.
