Food safety ratings

Sydney has a world-class dining scene and food businesses are generally very good at complying with food safety and hygiene requirements.

Scores on Doors is a promotional program that recognises and celebrates those food businesses that have demonstrated a good standard of food safety.

All restaurants, cafes, takeaways and bakeries* in the City of Sydney local area can receive a star rating, provided they meet the required food safety standard. Our officers frequently visit food businesses to ensure hygiene standards are being met.

When a business achieves good to excellent standards, at an unannounced inspection, they are awarded a star rating by the inspector. A certificate is then issued by the City of Sydney and positioned in a highly visible place for customers, usually in the front window or door of the business.

*If you’re not sure if your business is eligible, consult the NSW Food Authority website or call us on 02 9265 9333.
