We invite your feedback on our draft homelessness action plan.

Homelessness is a complex problem with complex causes, and it cannot be tackled alone. All levels of government must collaborate, show leadership and commitment, and work from a shared agenda to end homelessness.

The draft plan includes key actions to reduce homelessness and its impacts in the City of Sydney area by working closely with our residents, workers, visitors, services and other agencies.

The actions build on the success of our previous work, and our 30 year commitment to ending homelessness. The plan sets out the following 3 strategic priorities:

  • strategic priority 1 – monitor trends in inner city homelessness and increase access to safe and sustainable housing and support
  • strategic priority 2 – support people sleeping rough and manage the public domain
  • strategic priority 3 – work smarter together to have a greater impact.

The draft plan outlines our role in responding to the complex challenges of addressing homelessness and its impacts in the City of Sydney area. It comprises 2 parts:

  • part 1 provides an overview of the context of homelessness in Sydney and outlines our roles, responsibilities and partnerships
  • part 2 outlines our vision and approach to responding to homelessness, identifies strategic priority areas and actions, and outlines the monitoring and evaluation framework.

We formed this action plan by:

  • consulting with people who have lived experience of homelessness or are currently experiencing homelessness
  • analysing the existing homelessness data and trends
  • reviewing best-practice approaches to homelessness, locally and internationally
  • engaging with individuals, including residents and our staff members, and organisations, including homelessness service providers, to identify.

The draft plan is also built on extensive community engagement we undertook while working on the City’s social sustainability policy and action plan 2018–2028, A City for All.
