Saunders and Miller streets, Pyrmont – walking and cycling improvements

We've developed a second design option for Saunders Street in Pyrmont, in response to the community feedback we received during this consultation.

We invite your feedback on our plans to improve Saunders and Miller streets in Pyrmont for people walking and riding bikes.

We’re proposing new 2-way cycleways on the northern sides of Saunders and Miller streets. These are both major links in the NSW Government's strategic bike network.

There are already almost 1,500 weekday bike trips between Anzac Bridge and the Union Street cycleway during peak hours. The new cycleways will provide protected space for current and new riders to ride safely.

Other improvements include:

  • 3 new paved intersections at Saunders Street and Quarry Master Drive, Miller and Jones streets, and Miller and Mount streets
  • a new pedestrian crossing near Miller Lane to help people safely cross Miller Street
  • consolidating 2 bus stops on the north side of Miller Street.

We also propose to convert Saunders Street to 1-way westbound to make room for the new cycleway and retain parking on both sides of the road.

Changes to parking in the area

When the project is complete there will be 4 fewer public car parking spaces in the area.

Changing Saunders Street to 1-way will allow us to retain parking on both sides of the street and create 7 new parking spaces. On Miller Street 8 public parking spaces, 3 car share spaces and 3 part-time loading zone spaces will be removed to make way for the new improvements.

Artist's impression shows a person riding a bike on the separated cycleway with a car parked across the street and people walking on the parallel footpath.

We propose adding 3 part-time loading zone spaces on Harris Street so local businesses still have loading access nearby. Outside of loading times these spaces will be available for public parking.

This project is proudly funded by the NSW Government.
