Draft planning controls for Darlinghurst Road

From 25 June to 22 July, we asked for your feedback on the future character of Darlinghurst Road, Kings Cross. We asked you how you want the area to look and feel over the next 5, 10 or 20 years.

Our consultation included a community workshop, online survey, pop-up events and written submissions. 

Feedback has helped inform proposed changes to planning controls for Darlinghurst Road, Kings Cross and we invite your feedback on the proposal. 

The changes are designed to protect the area’s significant social, cultural and historical value and maintain a mix of retail, commercial and residential uses.

They include general planning controls for Darlinghurst Road that set out a minimum amount of non-residential floor space and reflect the desired street character. An updated locality statement and design principles will also apply to Darlinghurst Road.

Site specific controls for the Bourbon and Beefsteak site, between Fitzroy Gardens and Roslyn Street, will guide the architectural design of new development to ensure the height and form of buildings respect neighbours and protect sunlight. 

The proposed changes are part of a draft development control plan.

We will consider all submissions and report the results to Council.

Addendum 26 September 2018: Proposed heritage items will be exhibited at a later date after a gateway determination has been received from NSW Planning and Environment. Please note, the following documents were erroneously placed on this webpage and have been removed, subject to further consultation at a later stage:

The closing date for this consultation has been extended from 23 October to 29 October 2018.
