Shannon Reserve Playground upgrade

New equipment and an upgrade for the well-loved playground at Shannon Reserve on Crown Street.

What’s being done

We’ll soon start work to improve Shannon Reserve Playground in Surry Hills.

The upgrade includes:

  • fenced play pods for children aged 6 months to 8 years
  • play equipment with swings, cubby, slides, stilts, towers, nets and nature play area
  • 8 new trees
  • accessible entry to the paved courtyard from Crown Street and to new seating
  • permanent umbrellas for more shade in the playground.

We’ll stagger the works, and will close parts of the reserve in stages so you can continue to enjoy the green space.

The playground will be closed during the works. Surry Hills Markets will continue as normal.

Following an independent arborist assessment, 3 trees need to be removed because they are at the end of their life, in and around the playground.

We expect work to start in February 2020 and take around 6 months to complete, weather permitting.

Works will take place from 7.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday.

We’ll take steps to minimise any impacts. However, there will be some machinery noise.
