Improving Shannon Reserve Playground, Surry Hills

Improving Shannon Reserve Playground, Surry Hills

Thank you for your feedback. In response, we revised the concept design, which was approved by Council.
Works are expected to start in January 2020.

Project update: July 2019

We consulted the community about the concept designs for the new playground in late 2018. Work began on the detailed design in early 2019.

An arborist assessed the impacts of the works on trees in the playground. 2 cottonwood trees will need to be replaced due to internal decay. Another tree had already been scheduled for removal in the original concept design.

8 replacement trees will be planted as part of the upgrade. We’ll also install permanent umbrellas to provide shade.

Works will begin in January 2020 and take around 6 months to complete, weather permitting.

Consultation details

We are upgrading Shannon Reserve Playground on Crown Street, Surry Hills and we would like your feedback on the proposed design.

The design includes a new fenced playground with swings, slides, climbing nets, balance beams, stepping stones and a cubby house. There will also be plants and seating in the playground.

The design has been inspired by local primary school students who contributed their ideas during a workshop in July 2018 at Bourke Street Public School.
