Invitation to Wimbo Park – online community update

Thank you for working with the City of Sydney to develop and refine the design for Wimbo Park. We have undertaken extensive community consultation to ensure we deliver a high quality park that meets the needs of the local community.

Most recently, in July, we asked for your feedback on the revised concept design.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore will host an online meeting to provide a project update, report back on the consultation and next steps.

What: Wimbo Park – online community update
When: Wednesday 9 September 2020, from 6 – 7pm
Where: Online. The meeting link will be emailed to people who have registered before the meeting.

RSVP by 5pm Monday 7 September.

When Transport for NSW and the light rail contractors officially leave Wimbo Park, the City of Sydney will resume management of the site and we’ll progress with our planned improvements.

The revised concept design includes suggestions from the community and we’ve made safety improvements and increased parkland.

The design includes:

  • more shade trees and open lawn
  • more parkland and less paving to reduce noise impacts of the light rail
  • more casual seating to enable physical distancing
  • a shared zone along Parkham Lane and a pedestrian-only path through the park
  • more plants and screening to maintain privacy for adjacent homes
  • more plants and screening around the existing substation and electrical kiosks next to Bourke Street
  • retained fence and planting buffer separating the park from the light rail.

The development application modification will be open for public comment in September 2020.

When we resume managing the park, our priority will be to plant trees and arrange much-needed maintenance, so it can be immediately enjoyed by the community.

The park upgrade is expected to start in 2021 and will take about nine months.
