Self-help groups can book spaces at our community venues for bookings starting 1 July

We've reduced the bookings at our venues to comply with NSW Health orders and support the health and safety of our staff and visitors.

Our community centre services and programs are running at a reduced level and you'll need to book a session to attend.

We continue to offer online programs.

Community venue in Alexandria

The Cliff Noble Community Centre has been an important community site for many years.

Within easy walking distance to Redfern and Erskineville train stations, the centre holds many different activities for the local community.

A monthly day trip departs from the centre. Contact us for details.

The centre also has a room available for community gatherings.

Activity schedule

The City of Sydney's official event guide, What's On, has details of all events and activities at the Cliff Noble Centre.

  • Computer trouble shooting: Monday 10am, free.
  • Gentle exercise: Tuesday 11am and Thursday 10.30am, $2.
  • Creative writing: Wednesday 10am, $3
  • Zumba GOLD: Wednesday 12.30pm, free.
  • Art class: Wednesday 1pm, $3.
  • Mums, dads & bubs yoga: Friday 10.45am, $5.

Venue hire information

Suitable for meetings, gentle exercise groups, rehearsals and small functions. The room has a northerly aspect and carpeted floor. It is available for hire Monday to Friday from 5pm to midnight and on weekends from 7am to midnight.

Please note, we require 2 weeks notice to make a booking at a community venue that is not staffed.


The room is 12 metres by 13 metres.


  • dinner: 60 people

  • theatre: 100 people.

Special considerations

  • Noise needs to kept to a minimum, residential area.
  • Additional cleaning can be arranged.
  • Some functions may need security.
  • Alcohol is not permitted.


There is no accessible toilet available but wheelchair access is from the Suttor Street entrance.

Transport and parking

  • Erskineville and Redfern train stations are within walking distance
  • bus route 308 stops on Mitchell Road, near Buckland Street.

Standard room hire fees

  • weekdays until 5pm: $46 an hour
  • weekdays after 5pm, all day on weekends and on public holidays: $50 an hour
  • day rate (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm only): $275 a day
  • weekend full day rate, including public holidays (8am to midnight): $500 a day
  • community hire rate: 50% discount on standard hire rate.

Before hiring a City of Sydney community venue we ask that you read and understand the conditions of hire.

Additional charges

  • election surcharge: $1,250 an election
  • cleaning fee: quotation available on request
  • security fee: quotation available on request
  • room set-up fee: quotation available on request
  • wedding surcharge: booking fee + 10%
  • lighting rig operator (Glebe Town Hall only)
  • additional site inspection (1 included each booking): $81.50
  • self help groups – 50% discount applies to community/not-for-profit organisations/social enterprise fee – available to self-help and support groups on application only (conditions apply)
