Early works will begin in April 2026. Construction will begin in 2027 and is expected to be completed in 2028.
What we’re doing
We’re upgrading Victoria Street in Darlinghurst, between Craigend and Burton streets.
We’ll convert the 2 existing traffic lanes to one lane, which will create safer spaces for walking and riding, help increase passing trade for local businesses and make the area greener.
Our contractor Sydney Civil will start investigation works to locate service utility locations and allow us to determine where we can connect services to private properties.
For addresses impacted by moving overhead electric cables underground, we’ll contact property owners as part of these changes.
We’ll take steps to minimise impacts but there’ll be some machinery noise, temporary restrictions to vehicle parking and alternative walking access.
Why we’re doing this
We consulted on these plans in September and October 2025. Council unanimously endorsed the project in February 2026.
