Winning the peace

Winning the peace

After the Second World War there was a strong feeling we needed to "win the peace" and build better communities. Part of this was a move towards town planning to ensure homes and infrastructure better met community needs.

City Archives recently discovered some unique and fragile items of ephemera that provide insights into this hope, optimism and determination to make things better.

These precious clues were originally from a throwaway leaflet for the Sydney Housing Exhibition of 1944. Sixty-six years later they have become a window into our history.

This is a great example of why it is necessary to collect seemingly trivial ephemera.
