Terms and conditions

  1. Competition entry
    1. All applicants must have parent or guardian consent.
    2. Parents/guardians must read all entry forms and agree to the terms and conditions for the application to be considered.
    3. Applicants with shortlisted submissions and their parent or guardian may be invited to attend related media opportunities and participate in the official launch of the 2019 exhibition program.
    4. Applicants must be accompanied by a parent/guardian when attending Little Sydney Lives related activities.
    5. The City of Sydney will exhibit the work of the selected finalists around the walkway of Sandringham Gardens in Hyde Park north from 19 September 2019 to 6 October 2019.
    6. Children of City of Sydney employees and their immediate families are ineligible to enter.
    7. Entries must be submitted by 11.59pm on Sunday 16 June 2019.
    8. The City reserves the right to cancel or amend this competition or these terms and conditions without prior notice.
  2. What images can you submit?
    1. Photos can be colour or black and white
    2. Photos must be submitted in JPEG (.jpg) format with a minimum file size of 5MB and a maximum file size of 10MB.
    3. All photos must be submitted in landscape format
    4. All photos must be able to be reproduced to approximately 1500mm wide x 1000mm high.
  3. How are images judged?
    1. Photos will be viewed and shortlisted by the City of Sydney. From the shortlist, winners will be chosen by an independent panel of judges. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into with respect to the competition.
    2. Finalists and the overall winner will be notified by phone and email by a representative of the City of Sydney.
  4. Entries must meet the following criteria:
    1. The submission must be an original photo taken by a child between the ages of 3 and 11 years.
    2. Photos must be taken in Sydney.
    3. The photo submitted must meet the image requirements outlined on the entry form.
    4. The photo must reflect a child’s view of Sydney and demonstrate creativity and effort.
    5. Applicants and their parent or guardian must accept the terms and conditions and fully complete the online entry form.
    6. The applicant and their parent or guardian must be an Australian citizen or have Australian permanent residency status.
    7. The applicant and their parent or guardian may be asked to sign a model release form as a condition for inclusion of their artwork in the competition.
  5. Prizes
    1. The winner of each age group category will receive a gift to the value of approximately $500.
    2. The highly commended of each age group category will receive a gift to the value of approximately $250.
  6. Copyright and moral rights
    1. The applicant must be the owner of all copyright in the photo or must have obtained all necessary approvals to permit the use of the photo in the competition.
    2. Any photograph found to be infringing copyright will be immediately disqualified.
    3. The City accepts no liability for any claims of intellectual property infringement by third parties with respect to any entry.
    4. The applicant acknowledges that the City will:
      1. maintain a digital copy of the photo; and
      2. enlarge and adapt the photo to fit the large scale format of the exhibition
    5. The City will use its best endeavours to acknowledge the applicant in all publicity for the competition as the creator of the photo.
    6. Applicants release the City and its partners from any claim with respect to infringement of moral rights related to their entry.
    7. While the City will take care to ensure the integrity and quality of the reproduced photo, enlargements and slight variations to the photo may result from adapting the original photo to the large-scale format or from the printing process.
    8. Entrants will not be entitled to claim compensation for any damage to the original photo while in the care of the City or the competition production team and contractors.
    9. As a condition of entry to the competition, the City of Sydney and Little Sydney Lives photography competition sponsors are granted an irrevocable licence for worldwide unlimited use of the applicant’s entry in perpetuity.
  7. Large format reproduced photographs
    1. The City will fund the reproduction, installation and exhibition of selected finalists’ photos and will retain ownership of these following completion of the competition.
