We’d like to improve compliance by people who drive and open up spaces for residents.
Contributions to this consultation are closed for evaluation and review. The project team will report back on key outcomes.
We propose to introduce 1P 8am-10pm Permit Holders Excepted Area 41 parking in Redfern.
The affected streets are Little Cleveland, Chelsea, Stanley, Bourke, Thurlow, Charles, Rennie, Mount, Maddison, Boronia and South Dowling Streets.
Goals for the proposal are to discourage commuter parking, improve compliance by people who drive and open up spaces for residents.
Current parking restrictions are a mix of 1P Permit Parking, Loading Zone, 1/4P, 1/2P, 1P, Mobility Parking, Mail Zone, Authorised Car Share, Motor Bike and unrestricted parking.
Locals have raised concerns that commuters and visitors park in these streets due to their location near Moore Park stadiums or the newly opened Surry Hills Village, reducing spaces for residents.
In response to these concerns, we propose to reallocate all existing 2P permit parking and unrestricted parking spaces to 1P permit parking in this area.
The proposed parking changes would limit any vehicle that does not have an Area 41 parking permit to 1 hour of parking from 8am to 10pm, 7 days a week.
There are no changes proposed to current mobility parking restrictions in Stanley and Thurlow streets. Drivers with Mobility Parking Scheme (MPS) permits can continue to park in allocated spaces.

If the proposal doesn’t go ahead, we’ll update everyone who provides feedback. If the committee endorses the proposal, we plan to install the new parking signs within about 4 weeks of the committee’s decision.
