Frances Newton Reserve

New park on Palmer Street

We worked with the community to design a new green space for everyone to enjoy at 222 Palmer Street, Darlinghurst.

This includes a community garden overseen by a local community gardening group, and an imaginative play space for local children.

The work included:

  • new entry steps from Palmer Street and new park seating
  • a community garden with vegetable garden beds, toolbox bench seat and a space for composting or a worm farm
  • an imaginative play space including stepping stones, a hoop, speaking tubes, distorting mirrors, a rain wheel and timber animal play elements (2 echidnas and 1 wombat).
Some of the foundation from the Frances Newton Preschool has been retained as a tribute to the site's history.

The works were started in September 2018 and completed in November 2018.
