Visitors can support a sustainable Sydney

We love welcoming visitors to Sydney – in fact 10 million people visit our beautiful city each year. While tourism is responsible for around 8% of the world's carbon emissions, there are plenty of choices you can make to cut your carbon footprint.

  • Do your homework: Pick tour agencies that work with local communities, employ local staff and embrace a leave no trace policy.
  • Choose a green hotel or venue: A growing list of hotels and venues in Sydney are moving towards carbon neutrality by signing up to the Sustainable Destination Partnership.
  • See the sights on foot: Discover hidden secrets and fascinating stories with the help of our Sydney Culture Walks app.
  • Cycle around the city: A host of bike hire companies – both traditional and electric – can help you get around. Don’t forget to download or order a hard copy guide to Sydney’s cycleways.
  • Offset your emissions: Many airlines and car hire companies can help you offset for as little as the price of a cup of coffee.
