Revitalisation Initiatives
Initiatives
Six core initiatives have been identified to revitalise the City Centre laneways.
- A Finegrain Business Development Matching Grant has been developed to attract and support small business in laneway and underutilised precincts across the City Centre. The program provides business mentoring assistance and matched cash funding up to $30,000. More >>
- Temporary and permanent art installations will build on the success of Live Lanes 2007 and By George! 2008, Hidden Networks 2009 and Laneways Are you Looking at Me 2010 for Art & About, and form part of a program of events stretching into 2011. More >>
- A laneway capital works program will provide physical improvements to selected lanes. Works may include improved lighting, better paving, provision of additional space for outdoor dining, and traffic calming measures to improve pedestrian amenity and respond to business activation. More >>
- Precinct planning to develop a greater sense of ownership within the private sector for laneway revitalisation activities.
- Creation of tenancies to create and encourage new opportunities for small businesses to establish in laneway precincts. The City will work with business owners and the community to identify potential opportunities for the reuse and creation of small tenancies adjacent to City Centre laneways.
- Approval processes are being streamlined and guidelines prepared to assist with small bars, footway activation and laneway events.
