Planned
Works will start in mid-2026 and take around 12 months to complete, weather permitting.
Why we’re doing this
Improving safety and liveability for people walking is a priority for us.
We want to improve footpaths, lighting and seating, increase crossing frequency for walking, reduce vehicle speeds and boost tree cover.
These goals are outlined in A City for Walking strategy and action plan, which Council adopted in June 2024.
What we’re doing
The upgrade includes:
- replacing the roundabout with traffic lights and new signalised pedestrian crossings
- reconfiguring the separated cycleway on Epsom Road and installing a bike crossing with traffic lights
- landscaping with new shade trees
- installing street lighting and moving powerlines underground
- improving footpaths and stormwater drainage.
Works will take place from 7:30am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday and 7:30am to 3:30pm on Saturdays. Some night work may be necessary.
Traffic controllers will help everyone move safely during the works. We’ll install signs to guide people driving, walking and riding.
Parking on Epsom Road will be unavailable while works are under way. There’ll be some machinery noise and dust. We’ll keep disruption to a minimum.
