View the decision

We plan to upgrade Palmerston Avenue Steps and Sarah Peninton Reserve in Glebe and invite your feedback on the proposed design.

Over the next 10 years, we will upgrade more than 60 parks across the City of Sydney area, from small pocket parks to larger local parks.

Quality green open spaces are a priority for our residents, workers and visitors. These park upgrades will create better quality open spaces for everyone to enjoy, help keep our city cooler, and support biodiversity in our local areas.

The proposal for Palmerston Avenue Steps and Sarah Peninton Reserve will:

  • improve access along Palmerston Avenue with new stairs, a concrete path, hand rails and pram ramps and more welcoming entry points
  • add more native plants and grasses
  • provide new seating and a bubbler and tap
  • new enlarged entry plaza to light rail station
  • provide new bike racks and a bin.

To improve safety and sightlines into the park, we will remove 4 small trees along Lombard Street. We will also remove 8 trees along the north-western edge of the park. These trees are a toxic species (Nerium oleander) and are in close proximity to the playground at Sarah Peninton Reserve. They will be replaced by screen planting to buffer the light rail boundary.
