From 2014 to 2015, we made a number of improvements.
Project Status: Completed
What we’re doing
We're committed to improving and maintaining our streets. From the end of 2014 to December 2015, we renewed the following footpaths in the city centre. Footpaths were upgraded with granite paving to make them safer and more appealing.
York Street
1,800 square metres of granite paving replaced asphalt footpaths on York Street between Margaret and Wynyard street, outside the Queen Victoria Building.
Kent Street
Between Market and King streets: 798 square metres.
Pitt Street
Between Goulburn and Bathurst streets: 965 square metres.
Gas Lane
Shared zone: 645 square metres.
Kings Cross Road
Between Darlinghurst Road and Ward Avenue: 550 square metres.
Street lighting and other improvements
New smartpoles were installed along sections of Pitt, Kent and Sussex streets.
Smartpoles combine street and parking signs, traffic signals and lighting on 1 pole. They provide high-quality street LEDs and reduce clutter. They also allow for hanging baskets or street banners while improving the streetscape.
Enhancements were also made to kerb ramps and drainage pits to improve safety.
