Improving Darghan Street Steps, Glebe

Works to upgrade the stairs that connect Darghan and Railway streets in Glebe were started in April 2025 and completed in December 2025.

What we’re doing

The upgrade will improve access and safety, and provide a more pleasant walking experience.

Works include:

  • repairing and enhancing the existing sandstone stairs
  • building handrails
  • upgrading the landing at the top of the stairs
  • installing a sandstone retaining wall along Railway Street
  • adding landscaping and plantings
  • carrying out minor drainage works.
     

The stairs will be closed during this time. You can continue to access Railway Street from Darghan Lane or Darling Street. We will take steps to minimise other impacts on you but there will be some machinery noise and dust.
