Newtown: King Street upgrade works
New street lights and traffic signals installed on smartpoles between Newman Street and Essendon Road.

What we’re doing
Smartpoles
New street lights and traffic signals have been installed on smartpoles along King Street in Newtown, between Newman Street and Essendon Road.
Smartpoles provide high-quality street lighting and reduce street clutter by providing infrastructure for traffic services, telecommunications and street and parking signs.
The commissioning of smartpoles initiated the removal of old timber light poles including associated overhead wiring and traffic signal poles.
Footpaths
The restoration of the footpaths affected by the underground works commenced in mid-2014. Works progressed well and were completed in early 2015. To minimise disruption, the remaining works were completed in small sections.
Community consultation
We liaised closely with the Newtown Business Precinct Association and with directly affected property owners to provide information on the delivery of the project.
