Why we’re doing this

We’re inviting your feedback on our updated busking policy and the Sydney busking code. These documents guide busking in our local area and outline the rules for using popular sites.

The policy and code have been updated following a review to consider new busking sites for George Street, Pitt Street Mall and other busy parts of the city centre.

What we’re doing

Key updates include:

  • simplifying language throughout
  • removing amplification as a criterion for a high-impact act
  • reinstating 2 busking pitches in Pitt Street Mall for low-impact acts
  • permitting busking on George Street except for 3 locations which have caused safety concerns or impacts for residents
  • reinstating a 2-hour duration for busking on George Street for low-impact acts
  • safety guidance for busking around light rail.
