Retailers are responsible for the operational management and costs of any activation. This includes seating, crowd management and waste management.
Only the pitch allocated to the retailer by the City of Sydney is available for use.
Activations and display structure must be designed to:
- keep the street free and tidy of clutter
- be durable and weather resistant
- prevent unsafe conditions due to weather, for example, goods being blown about by wind
- be without electrical power such as petrol/diesel generators, lighting, heating, or refrigeration unless battery powered and self-contained within the installation, fully tested and tagged in line with Australian standards
- include non-slip floors.
Mains power is not available for stalls to use. You must provide your own power.
The display structure must:
- not be attached to the footpath, street poles or any other street furniture or infrastructure using metal bolts, padlocks, chains or similar
- not damage the surface of the footpath, including when it’s being set up and taken down
- be kept in good repair and free of broken elements,
Activations are to be no bigger than 3m x 3m with a height of 3.5m, subject to City of Sydney review.
All activations need to be set up by 9am. Vehicles must be offsite by 8am. Bump out on Saturday 25 November is from 9:30pm and/or when authorities permit. Bump out on Sunday 26 November is from 6:30pm and/or when authorities permit.
Activation structures including roofs must not obstruct the eyeline to businesses within the mall. Acceptable roofs are clear, flat or open.
Caravans, shipping containers and cars aren’t permitted.
Goods on display should be normally found in the corresponding business and be free from contamination.
The activation and display must not contain:
- white goods
- sharp, dangerous or protruding items
- goods that may damage or stain the pavement such as oils or dyes
- restricted literature or goods.
The display or activation isn’t to be used for spruiking or broadcasting of amplified sales messages on the footpath or from within the shop so that it can be heard on the footpath.
The City of Sydney will provide general overnight precinct security. All merchandise must be removed at close of trading as this will not be covered by security. The City of Sydney is not responsible for any merchandise or infrastructure associated with your activation. Any items left onsite are your responsibility.
The operator of the display/activation must have a current public liability insurance policy covering the display, with a minimum value of $20 million.
All retail sales must be electronic only. No cash sales are permitted.
Donation collection for charities other than the City of Sydney’s approved Christmas charity partner are not permitted.
Requests for amplified music will be considered on a case by case basis as part of the expression of interest process.
If pitches are not taken by neighbouring retailers, the City of Sydney reserves the right to reallocate the pitch as it sees fit.
