Library computer and wifi conditions of use
These terms and conditions apply to all public computers and wifi users at our branches.
What you can use our computers and wifi for
Library technology can only be used for lawful and appropriate purposes. Use of our technology is at your own risk.
Restricted use
Use may be deemed inappropriate at our absolute discretion. Examples include:
- accessing sexually explicit or offensive material, including content that is degrading to any individual due to their gender, ethnic, cultural, religious or racial group
- damage, theft or the unauthorised modification of library resources
- downloading any malicious software
- any illegal act or accessing related material to an illegal act
- any activity or action that may cause harm to children
- activities that may threaten, harass or impinge another's right to safety and security, including conduct that may be considered cyber bullying or cyber abuse or publishing defamatory content
Following the law
You must comply with all applicable laws and regulations (and orders made under such laws and regulations), including the Crimes Act 1900 (NSW), Copyright Act 1968 (Cth), and the Online Safety Act 2021 (Cth).
If you’re under 16
Ask a parent or guardian's permission before using library computers.
What happens if you break the rules
Library and computer privileges may be suspended. Serious incidents may result in a ban from library venues and notifying relevant authorities.
About this service
Who runs this service: These computers are administered by the City of Sydney. The City reserves the right to refuse access to our computers in accordance with these terms and conditions.
Privacy and security: Security and anonymity on the internet can’t be guaranteed. We take no responsibility for any consequences, direct or indirect, coming from the use of the City’s computers or wifi networks.
Downloading large quantities for data is not permitted. (Download limit: 2GB)
What we collect: No personal details are collected by us but we may gather web browsing history. This information may be made available to authorities upon request.
Supervising children: We accept no responsibility for supervision of children.
