Library conditions of entry
We’re committed to providing safe, welcoming and respectful spaces.
Published
These conditions of entry apply to all City of Sydney Library branches, including staffed and unstaffed sites. They also apply to library services and activities that take place outside a branch such as online sessions, outreach events, programs and the home library.
In branch
- Respect the safety and property of others and their enjoyment of the library. Treat everyone with respect and courtesy.
- Take care of your belongings and always keep them with you.
- Follow reasonable requests and instructions from our team.
- Assistance animals are welcome. Relevant identification or proof of training must be presented to our team. All other animals need to be left outside the library.
- Maintain reasonable community dress and hygiene standards. Consume hot and messy food outside the library. Bring drinks in covered containers.
- Be mindful of noise. Conversation is welcome but use mobile phones and other devices quietly or with headphones.
- Leave the library at closing time, during emergency procedures or if directed to do so.
Technology
- Care for our technology, resources and facilities.
- When copying library materials, sharing material online, downloading software, films, sound records and broadcasts, you’re responsible for observing relevant laws.
- Consider the privacy of others when recording audio or video. All filming in the library must obtain prior approval.
- Follow our Internet terms of use and view appropriate material on laptops and library computers. Computer login activity may be monitored for troubleshooting and security purposes. We may give login activity to relevant authorities if required.
Health and safety
- Be safe when moving through the library. Skateboards, roller skates, rollerblades or similar need to be removed on entry. Scooters and bikes must be left at the entrance. Unattended items are left at your own risk.
- E-scooters and e-bikes can’t be charged indoors at our branches.
- Supervise children under 12. Caregivers must be over the age of 16. We’ll confirm the child’s age and contact their caregiver or, if necessary, the police.
- Don’t smoke or use e-cigarettes inside or within 4m of the entrance.
- Surveillance cameras monitor public areas.
