Big ideas transforming global cities

Big ideas transforming global cities

23 May 2019

Global and national speakers joined Lord Mayor Clover Moore to examine the importance of bold ideas and outstanding practices in urban projects transforming Seoul, New York, Adelaide and Sydney.

Each of the projects discussed have good governance, leadership, advocacy and citizen engagement at their core.

In a first for CityTalks, keynote speaker Mayor Park Won Soon of Seoul delivered his address and participated in a panel from Seoul using 3D technology.

Mayor Park has pioneered bold, people-focused projects. He famously reclaimed a 1970s highway overpass and transformed it into a kilometre-long public ‘skygarden’ called Seoullo 7017.

We were also joined by:

  • The Honourable Jay Weatherill, former Premier of South Australia who drove the world’s biggest lithium-ion battery project at Hornsdale Power Reserve
  • Henriette Vamberg, partner and managing director of Gehl Copenhagen, who was involved in the pedestrianisation of Times Square
  • David Beaumont, senior community engagement Coordinator, Aboriginal community development, City of Sydney, who played a significant role in the City’s Eora Journey program.
