Emergence

Installed from 21 September 2012 to 5 October 2012
Faces projected onto trees in a park at night, with city buildings in the background and a person walking in the foreground.

Every landscape hides countless untold stories.

Artist: Craig Walsh and Steven Thomasson
This artwork was temporary and is no longer at this location.

Artwork description

As night descends, giant trees in Hyde Park south are illuminated.

Faces emerge from the leaves and branches, revealing lives, past and present, linked to this beautiful green space in the centre of our city.

The effect is haunting. As the branches sway, these ephemeral 3D monuments shift and change, responding to the park and its history.

Emergence is presented in collaboration with the Australian Museum.
