Our award-winning international student leadership and ambassador program offers free training, integrated learning and volunteering opportunities.

About this opportunity

Develop leadership skills and experiences that can help in your future career. Meet new friends, expand your networks and get involved in local events and activities. Volunteering opportunities include major events such as Vivid and Sydney New Year’s Eve, community services and Sydney City Farm.

You’ll be mentored and supported by us to create projects and events that help address the needs of international students.

You can apply for a 3 month or 6 month program.

The bronze program consists of the following activities:
- Induction session: ISLA program and the City of Sydney – Friday 6 September, 4pm to 6pm
- Volunteering training – Tuesday 17 September, 4:30pm to 6:30pm
- Leadership and personal growth training – Wednesday 2 October, 4:30pm to 7:30pm
- Volunteering – 30 hours from September to November
- Reflection and evaluation session – Monday 4 November, 4pm to 6pm
- Graduation ceremony – Monday 18 November, 4:30pm to 5:30pm
All sessions must be attended and will be held in the city centre. You’ll receive a bronze certificate when you complete the program.

The silver program consists of the following activities:
- Induction session: ISLA program and the City of Sydney – Saturday 7 September, 10am to 12pm
- Volunteering training – Saturday 21 September, 10am to 12pm
- Leadership and personal growth training – Wednesday 2 October, 4:30pm to 7:30pm
- Event/project management training – Saturday 12 October, 9am to 1pm
- Volunteering – 30 hours from September to November
- Project planning and coordination workshops – Thursday 24 October, Wednesday 6 November, Wednesday 20 November and Wednesday 4 December, 4pm to 6pm
- Reflection and evaluation session – Saturday 16 November, 10am to 12pm
- Activity timetable for the following year will be available from January 2025
All sessions must be attended and will be held in the city centre. You’ll receive a silver certificate when you complete the program.

Applications to our next 3 and 12 month programs will open in 2025.

- Be a current international student aged 18 years or over at a tertiary education institution in Greater Sydney. This includes universities, vocational education and training (VET) institutes or other education providers.
- Live, study, work or visit the City of Sydney’s local area.
- Commit to participating for the duration of the 3 or 6 month program selected. This includes induction sessions, training courses and events or projects in the City of Sydney’s local area, as well as volunteering opportunities across Greater Sydney. These may require a certain number of hours per week.
