Enabling equitable opportunities promotes socioeconomic justice. Community wellbeing and upholding fundamental rights are central to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander self-determination.

We’re supporting Aboriginal aged care and housing opportunities in Redfern, while 107 Redfern Street is providing the opportunity for much needed cultural and creative uses. We’re developing an anti-racism framework for the organisation.

Truth-telling fosters mutual understanding and healing. To continue our reconciliation journey we must confront hard truths and listen to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

A series of history markers will recognise Aboriginal sites of social, cultural and historic significance in the local area. Our review of colonial statues, monuments and ephemera in Sydney Town Hall will develop a way forward that is well-informed, brave and culturally safe.

We’re improving our knowledge and connections with First Nations businesses to better support how we engage through our programs and other mechanisms.

First Nations cultures are respected, supported and celebrated. We recognise Indigenous cultural and intellectual property rights to ensure protection and prosperity.

We’re supporting opportunities to develop, maintain and celebrate local First Nations cultural initiatives through our grants and community and cultural spaces. We’ll develop Indigenous cultural and intellectual property guidelines to strengthen our ability to work respectfully with First Nations people and cultures.

Collaborative engagement supports community decision-making and partnership enabling community control. Relevant, appropriate and consistent two-way dialogue supports informed decision-making and information access.

We’re strengthening our culturally appropriate communications, reporting and consultation methods to centre First Nations voices and support informed decision making.
