Apply for access for oversize and over-mass vehicles
You'll need to apply to the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) to drive large transportation in our area.
We have 28 days to determine an NHVR application.
$294 Route assessment fee
Project Status: When you need to do this
From 1 June 2020, all permits for restricted access vehicles issued in NSW is through the national regulator’s NHVR portal.
Permits can no longer be issued directly by road managers in NSW. View more information about the return of delegation to the national regulator.
After you finish
- NHVR will send us your application and we will review.
- Under law, we have up to 28 days to determine an application and can reject it if the journey is likely to cause asset damage, pose a risk to public safety or adversely affect traffic congestion, air quality or public amenity.
- Once we receive your application through the portal, we will ask you to pay a route assessment fee and that you still contact our construction regulations unit 48 hours before travel.
- A further fee for pavement assessment may also be applied if we determine your application is likely to damage our assets. The pavement assessment will be charged at full cost to the applicant. Find out more about our current fees and charges.
If the application is insufficient to assess the proposal
We will contact you to seek clarification. We may also request additional information, such as a swept path analysis, traffic management plan and pavement assessment, if it’s necessary to satisfactorily assess your proposal.
