What we’re doing

The Department of Planning and Environment is assessing a plan to redevelop Waterloo estate (south) with new public, affordable and private housing, new streets and public open spaces. The department consulted on its plan earlier this year.

We’re proposing amendments to our Sydney Development Control Plan 2012 to align it with the department’s new planning controls and the design guide in its plan. The amendments will ensure that our plan is consistent with the state government’s new plan.

The proposed changes to the Sydney Development Control Plan 2012 include:

  • a provision that the department’s planning controls and design guide will apply to all sites in Waterloo estate (south)
  • updates to maps, consistent with the department’s design guide
  • incorporation of a locality statement for Waterloo estate (south) – locality statements describe the characteristics that give an area its identity and define the proposed future character of an area
  • adjustment of other locality statements affected by the changes in the area.
