Hire a community bus

What you need to do

1. Ensure you are accredited

   The group or organisation’s nominated bus driver must be authorised in the application and accreditation process before you can hire a bus. The driver needs to hold a minimal light rigid licence.

   Once both the community group/organisation and driver accreditation and authorisation has been granted a bus can then be booked using the booking form.

2. Download and complete the form

   Make sure you have read and completed all areas of the form. Once complete, the form can be submitted by email, mail, or in person to the community transport office or one of our customer service centres.

Availability and fees

Our buses are available for hire Monday to Friday on either a half or full-day basis for permanent or casual bookings.

Accredited community groups and organisations need to make a contribution towards the operating costs of the scheme. For more information, refer to the community bus scheme procedure below or telephone 02 8019 6918.

Category B fees and charges

Applicable to non-profit, community based organisations or groups targeting priority groups and community needs issues who are directly benefiting residents of the City of Sydney local area.

• Full day (up to and over 4 hours): $33
• Fuel fee (each kilometre): $0.54
• Overnight additional fee: $100
• Cleaning fee: $108
• Refuelling fee: $68
• Failure to notify a booking cancellation – half/full day: $33
• Bus driver fee (minimum 4 hours) – Monday to Friday 8:15am to 5pm: $55 an hour
• Bus driver fee (minimum 4 hours) – Monday to Friday 5pm–midnight and weekends: $110 an hour
• Bus driver fee (minimum 4 hours) – public holidays: $165 an hour
• Pre-trip inspection fee (hires travelling 100km outside City of Sydney local area): $57
• Toll charges – full cost of tolls used throughout the hire

Category C fees and charges

Applicable to non-profit, community based organisations or groups targeting non-priority groups or where the purpose of the trip isn’t directly benefiting City of Sydney residents.

• Half-day (up to 4 hours): $119
• Full day (over 4 hours): $200
• Fuel fee (each kilometre): $0.54
• Overnight additional fee: $100
• Cleaning fee: $108
• Refuelling fee: $68
• Bus driver fee (minimum 4 hours) – Monday to Friday 8:15am to 5pm: $55 an hour
• Bus driver fee (minimum 4 hours) – Monday to Friday 5pm to midnight and weekends 7am to midnight: $110 an hour
• Bus driver fee (minimum 4 hours) – public holidays: $165 an hour
• Pre-trip inspection fee (hires travelling 100km outside City of Sydney local area): $57
• Toll charges – full cost of tolls used throughout the hire
