Improving The Crescent and Federal Park

Improving The Crescent and Federal Park

Johnstons Creek, Annandale

Administrators notified the City in January 2020 that the contractor building the skate park and playground next to Federal Park had gone into liquidation.

Work has started again now with a new contractor at The Crescent and Federal Park at Johnstons Creek in Annandale, to create more green open spaces and recreational areas for everyone to enjoy.

The works will open up the 5 archways of the Glebe railway viaduct, create a large play area near Federal Park playing field and create a new open space.

Once complete, the works will include:

  • new recreational open space, west of the Glebe railway viaduct
  • a skate plaza and adjacent mini skate ramp
  • a new, larger playground
  • shared paths for people walking and riding bikes throughout the park
  • groves of native trees and large lawn areas
  • picnic areas with seating and barbecues
  • conservation works to the Glebe railway viaduct.

The work is expected to be completed in early 2021. It will take place from 7.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday and 7.30am to 3.30pm on Saturday.

We will take steps to minimise construction impacts. Some areas of the park will be fenced off during works for safety. This will also minimise disturbance from construction vehicles accessing the site. We will reopen these areas as quickly as possible.

This project is part of our Johnstons Creek masterplan, which will create a ribbon of parklands around the Glebe Peninsula. It brings together well-loved parks and new areas, Federal Park and a new area of open space near The Crescent.
