Self-help groups can book spaces at our community venues for bookings starting 1 July

We've reduced the bookings at our venues to comply with NSW Health orders and support the health and safety of our staff and visitors.

Our community centre services and programs are running at a reduced level and you'll need to book a session to attend.

We continue to offer online programs.

Community venue in Kings Cross

Reginald Murphy Community Centre is located just off Macleay Street, Kings Cross.

It hosts several community social and fitness activities during business hours. A community worker onsite also provides support and referrals to services, including housing, counselling and home care.

Facilities available at the centre include computers and wifi, pool table, piano and book library exchange.

The centre also has a room available for hire on weeknights and weekends that is ideal for hosting community events and gatherings.

Privacy notice

Venue hire information

Suitable for meetings, gentle exercise groups, rehearsals and small functions. The centre is located in the heart of Kings Cross.

It is available for hire Monday to Friday from 5pm to midnight and on weekends from 7am to midnight.

Please note, we require 2 weeks notice to make a booking at a community venue that is not staffed.


The room is 10 metres by 13.5 metres.


  • dinner: 60 people
  • cocktail party: 60 people
  • theatre: 60 people.


Kitchen with:

  • microwave
  • hot water urn.


  • 5 trestle tables (each seats 6 people)
  • 40 chairs
  • 6 lounge chairs
  • ceiling fans
  • piano and guitar.

Special considerations

  • Noise needs to be kept to a minimum, residential area.
  • Additional cleaning can be arranged.
  • Some functions may require additional security.
  • Alcohol is not permitted.
  • Furniture to be put back exactly as found.


Wheelchair access is available from Greenknowe Avenue and the accessible toilet can be used by prior arrangement.

Transport and parking

  • Kings Cross train station is within walking distance.
  • Bus route 311 stops on Macleay Street, near Orwell Street.
  • Bus routes 323, 324, 325, 326 and 327 stop on Bayswater Road, near Darlinghurst Road.
  • Limited on-street parking.
  • Ward Avenue parking station is nearby.

Standard room hire fees

  • weekdays until 5pm: $46 an hour
  • weekdays after 5pm, all day on weekends and on public holidays: $50 an hour
  • day rate (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm only): $275 a day
  • weekend full day rate, including public holidays (8am to midnight): $500 a day
  • community hire rate: 50% discount on standard hire rate.

Additional charges

  • election surcharge: $1,250 an election
  • cleaning fee: quotation available on request
  • security fee: quotation available on request
  • room set-up fee: quotation available on request
  • wedding surcharge: booking fee + 10%
  • lighting rig operator (Glebe Town Hall only)
  • additional site inspection (1 included each booking): $81.50
  • self help groups – 50% discount applies to community/not-for-profit organisations/social enterprise fee – available to self-help and support groups on application only (conditions apply)
