Our digital sound recording studio is an accessible and easy-to-use facility for both learning and small-scale music projects.

StudioRCC is more than a low-cost recording facility – we offer exciting learning and creative workshops and courses in music and sound production for free! The courses are provided by facilitators currently working within the Aboriginal/Australian music and film industry.

Our workshops are designed for all creative levels from beginners to intermediate and advanced. We provide a welcoming environment for artists to come together to learn/create with the opportunity to perform for a live audience at the family and cultural day event every 2 months and at upcoming local festivals.

Intermediate to advanced classes facilitated by Troy Russell. This course is now TAFE certified.

Hip-hop music business

This is an introductory music industry program.

Create a song, record and mix. Write an artist biography. Create a media database. Write a press release for digital EP and design a digital EP cover.

Class descriptions

Studio introductory course

The best low-cost introduction to audio engineering and computer-based recording available. You will learn how to operate the studio so you can hire it for your own projects. You will be introduced to Apple Logic and software and guided through setting-up a microphone and other equipment to record voice and instruments.

You need to register with StudioRCC to participate in the course, which is made-up of 3 x 3-hour sessions. Bookings are essential.

Cost: $57/$35 concession per day

Low-cost studio access

If you've completed our studio introductory course or if you're already an experienced studio operator, you can hire our studio at low-cost.

Cost: $30 individuals/$53.50 commercial/groups per hour 
Studio operators: Senior $71/Basic $53.50 per hour

All studio users need public liability coverage for unsupervised studio use, which costs $30 for 3 months.

Studio technical production (advanced) 

This course is for the advanced producer/engineer. Build confidence working in a studio environment learn and develop new techniques with one on one time working on your own music. This course has now partnered with Gadigal Information Service and a monthly class operates from Koori Radio.

Studio technical production (beginner) 

This course is for the beginner producer/engineer. Learn to record vocals, instruments, mix down of recording and troubleshooting.

Ableton Live 9 Suite

Students will gain the essential skills needed for the creation of their own electronic music. The course includes: introduction to Ableton Live Suite, creating drums, basslines and melodies with MIDI, synthesis, sampling loops, time-stretching, EQing, filters, reverb, delay and other effects. 


This introduction to DJ/CDJ workshops teaches you the basics of setting up and handling equipment, counting BPM (beats per minute), smooth mixing, basic scratch techniques/beat juggling and turntable tricks. You will be assessed with a final test in a live environment.  

Apple’s Logic X 

Fundamental knowledge of the music production processes, fundamental understanding of a digital audio workstation, fundamental knowledge of recording/mixing process and basic understanding of Apple’s Logic X.

Tweenie and Youth singing

This is an after school singing program.

Youth hip hop song writing 

Bring your ideas to write a song, record it and then perform it. 

Heaps Decent - bookings essential

Heaps Decent is an Australian based dynamic arts organisation working with young people and emerging artists from marginalised and disadvantaged communities, providing a means by which they can tell their story in their own way.

Heaps Decent supports change, positive futures and the development of high quality Australian music with a unique identity.

Beats and Bars

A monthly jam session to showcase new live material in a live band environment.
