Enclosed playgrounds
Several playgrounds across our local area are enclosed, ranging in size and access.
- Mostly enclosed – large areas of the playground are enclosed by fencing, walls, dense hedges or a combination of these. But one side of 4, in a rectangular shaped site, is open and can be fairly easily accessed by an unsupervised child.
- Partly enclosed – only some of the playground perimeter is enclosed by fencing, walls or hedges. The enclosures are typically the sides closest to a road or dog off-leash area.
- Fully enclosed – the entire play space is enclosed by fencing and the entrances are usually, but not always, gated.
Partly enclosed playgrounds can be restricted by:
- natural features or retaining walls, like Albert Sloss Reserve Playground
- neighbouring properties or buildings, like Fanny Place Playground
- fencing on most sides or fencing without gates, like Dr HJ Foley Rest Park Playground
- hedges or bushes, like Fig Lane Park Playground
- low-height walls, like Redfern Community Centre Playground.
