By making a nomination, you accept these terms and conditions.

The City of Sydney reserves the right at any time to dismiss any nomination from an individual and/or organisation that has (in the City of Sydney’s view) breached any of the terms and conditions or engaged in any unlawful or other improper conduct.

Award categories

Nominations for a young person’s award (individual/group) are open to any young persons aged 12 to 25 years who live, study or work in the City of Sydney local area. Nominees must have made a substantial contribution to their local community in any of the following categories:

Category 1 – Creative: Individuals or groups who have made significant contribution to the community through drama, visual arts, digital media, literature, music and/or other art forms in the past 12 months.

Category 2 – Community: Individuals or groups who have contributed time and resources to promote and participate in building community, social justice, environmental sustainability or animal welfare issues in the past 12 months. 

Winners will receive a $500 award towards costs associated with their ongoing education or community service work.

How to nominate

Nominations may be made by a third party using the online form available on the City of Sydney website.

All nominations must be made by 5pm on Friday 14 April 2023.

Awards

Award winners will be paid directly with a $500 debit card. The awards will be presented at the Betty Makin Youth Awards night on Friday 28 April from 4pm to 6pm at Redfern Town Hall.  

How the nominations are judged

The Betty Makin Youth Awards will be determined by the City of Sydney at its absolute discretion, based solely on the information provided on the nomination forms. It is essential to include as much relevant information as possible. The nominations will be assessed and judged by 1 external judge and 2 City of Sydney employees. Decisions will be final and no correspondence will be entered into with respect to the outcome of the awards.
