Book a doorstep recycling collection for tricky household items

Rechargeable, non-rechargeable, small handheld batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, 9V and 6V), lantern, watch and button batteries.

These are the pill packets made of plastic and foil. We also accept empty, fully foil pill packets. If your blister pack came in a cardboard box, recycle the box separately in your yellow lid bin at home. No business quantities.

Clothing (including worn-out and torn items), swimwear, fashion accessories (hats, gloves, handbags, belts and jewellery), shoes, blankets, sheets and towels. They must be dry. 

No underwear, reusable nappies, socks, carpets, curtains, cushions, pillows, electric blankets or doonas.

Place coffee pods in a clear soft plastic bag so they don’t leak.

• Small appliances and personal items: kettles, toasters, irons, blenders, alarm clocks, radios, remotes, power tools, hairdryers, straighteners, electric toothbrushes, smartwatches, vapes
• Mobile phones and accessories: smartphones, landlines, chargers, headphones
• Small computers and accessories: laptops, tablets, e-readers, mouse, keyboards, game consoles, speakers, remotes, cameras, cables motes, power tools, DVDs/CDs/videotapes.

Longer fluorescent tubes can stick out the top of your bag.

Items should be under 10kg. No sharp items.

• Metal handheld tools: hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches
• Metal coat hangers – bundled and tied together
• Keys and metal locks
• Metal kitchen items: pots, pans, baking trays, colanders.

From furniture, appliance or delivery packaging. Keep pieces whole with all tape/glue removed. We accept large pieces of polystyrene if they’re under 1m in size. Place polystyrene with your bags and secure any loose pieces so they don’t blow away.

No bendy or squishy items, such as foam wrap, foam sheets, packing peanuts or bean bag filling. No polystyrene with plastic lining, like some ice cream containers.

Inkjet cartridges, laser cartridges, toner bottles, fuser and drum units, fax rolls and print heads.

Children’s hard toys, in good working condition (batteries removed).

First put envelopes and any paper scans in your yellow lid recycling bin at home.

Take items in good condition to your local charity store. For books in bad condition, put them in your yellow lid bin - remove hard covers and plastic or metal binding.

Put it in your yellow lid recycling bin or take large cardboard to our quarterly drop-off event Recycle It Saturday.

Take carpets and rugs to a public recycling centre. Cut the hooks and eyelets off curtains and take them, along with cushions, pillows and doonas, to Ultimo recycling pop-up or Recycle It Saturday.

For electric blankets, make sure the blanket is unplugged before cutting out the cord and thermostat. You can recycle these electrical parts by booking a doorstep recycling collection. You will need to roll up the remaining blanket and put it in your red lid bin.

Chemicals like oils, flammable liquids, poisons, pesticides, household and pool cleaners, motor oil, cooking oil and other hazardous items can be safely disposed at a Household Chemical CleanOut collection.

Pop them in Simply Cups bins at 7-11 stores or your red lid bin at home.

Take them to participating Mecca, Priceline, David Jones or Woolworths stores.

Mirrors, bric-a-brac and kitchenware.

Bottles, plastic containers, glass, cardboard, foil and cans. Put them in your yellow lid bin.

Furniture, whitegoods, mattresses and large electronics. Instead book a free pick-up for bulky items.

Drop them off at any pharmacy.

Knives, scissors, utensils and other sharp metals.

Plastic bags, bread bags, wrappers, chip packets or bubble wrap can be taken to Woolworths Stores trialling soft plastics recycling. Otherwise, put them in your red lid bin.

You can take socks to Ultimo Recycling pop-up or Recycle It Saturday events. Put underwear and reusable nappies in your red lid bin.
