Our library collection development guidelines outline our principles, processes and accountabilities for selecting, acquiring, evaluating and deselecting items in our collections.
We believe freedom can be protected in democratic society only if individuals have unrestricted access to information and ideas. We don’t censor our collection. You can read more about our commitment to the freedom of access to ideas and information.
We’re committed to developing and maintaining a collection that meets the current and future needs of our diverse communities. As part of this commitment, we:
- manage the collection in line with industry standards and legal requirements
- provide quality and accessible information in a range of formats
- promote equity of access and unrestricted access to ideas and information
- acquire items that express a variety of viewpoints and cultural understandings
- address the changing needs of our communities with innovative collections and technology
- evaluate the collection regularly to ensure its currency, accuracy, quality and appeal as well as its continued ability to meet community demands
- plan for the growth and development of collections using community demographics
- share resources with other libraries and institutions.
