    We’re bringing the best of our City of Sydney Library to the Tramsheds in Harold Park. Over 10 days, enjoy a spectacular series of free talks, workshops and fun activities for the whole family.

    Guest author Indira Naidoo shares her experience of exploring the world of kitchen and community gardens. Learn how to spot fake news with expert Dr Joanne Orlando and get hands-on with Wikipedia editing, electrocraft, ceramics, watercolour painting and coding.

    For music lovers we’ve got family jam sessions with Musica Viva and ukulele workshops just for the adults.

    Bring the little ones to experience all the magic of our popular storytime and rhymetime program, with special guest Aunty Kathy Dodd Farrawell.

    You’ll find the Lawn Library in the Harold Park Community Hall on level 1 of the Tramsheds, one of Sydney’s most exciting foodie destinations.

    You’re welcome to drop by at any time to explore our collections and activities.

    Head to our pop-up Lawn Library at Tramsheds to test drive kits from our makerspace collection, including robots, coding equipment and electronics.

    These free sessions are a great opportunity to get familiar with our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) equipment.

    All the kits are available free to library members to borrow and take home.

    Different makerspace kits will be demonstrated by experienced library staff at each session.

    Storytime Yoga
    Thursday 6 June, 11am-11.30am

    Yoga teacher and Play School presenter Rachael Coopes leads this immersive storytime. The session connects movement and play with story, teaching mindfulness, kindness and consciousness in a way that makes sense to pre-schoolers. Participants will be provided with a mat and headphones so they can focus easily on Rachael’s voice and the story.

    Gangari storytime with Aunty Kathy

    Join Aunty Kathryn Dodd Farrawell, Aboriginal member of the Glebe community to explore some of her favourite children’s stories.

    Presented by library staff and the Deaf Society, this sessions is suitable for deaf and hearing children.

    Get a hands-on introduction to the incredible world of wearable electronics and paper craft at the pop-up Lawn Library at the Tramsheds.

    In this free session led by Bobbin and Ink, first learn how to create simple circuits.

    Then combine conductive thread, household objects, tape and LEDs to make a unique creation you can take home.

    These sessions are suitable for anyone aged 6 years and over.

    This series is free but places are limited and booking is essential.

    Join this fun and inclusive workshop for all ages and abilities, led by Musica Viva ensemble Sousaphonics at our pop-up Lawn Library.

    Combining performance with tactile, interactive opportunities, you’ll get to experience brass, woodwind and percussion instruments and the human voice. By playing percussion instruments, feeling vibratory sensations, singing and using body percussion, all participants can access music.

    The session on Monday will be Auslan interpreted.

    For parents with kids using the internet, social media and video games – sexual and violent content is a source of constant concern.

    Join this session with leading expert, Dr Joanne Orlando, to help you better understand children’s technology use. You’ll hear stories and research identifying where risks and safety issues lie, and why they’re there. Learn some strategies, and get balanced information to empower you to make the right choices.

    Explore the effect of social media on young people’s privacy, health, well-being, relationships and reputations. Find out what aspects of social media, gaming, and sexual and violent content can be unsafe and harmful.

    Apply your understanding of when, where and how children see violent and sexual content and develop ways to guide them. You’ll also learn how to recognise and manage problematic gaming habits.

    This 1-hour session includes time for questions and access to new resources developed by Dr Joanne Orlando.

    Dr Joanne Orlando
    As a leading international expert on family and digital lifestyles, Joanne offers fresh perspectives and solutions on our digital lives. Appearing regularly on TV and radio, she also provides expert parenting advice around all things technology. Joanne is known for introducing new terms like ‘Sharenting,’ the implications of parents sharing images of their kids online, and ‘Finsta,’ fake Instagram accounts. She’s currently working on her third parenting book and hosts online and face-to-face digital-parenting seminars and courses.

    This free session is best suited to parents of primary and high-school children. Older children may wish to attend with their parents.
