Self-help groups can book spaces at our community venues for bookings starting 1 July

We’ve reduced the bookings at our venues to comply with NSW Health orders and support the health and safety of our staff and visitors.

This means we’ve prioritised bookings for self-help groups. We will reopen bookings for other groups when we can and in line with capacity and health orders.

If you’re hiring a space, you must follow the requirements below.

Communicating with other attendees

  • ask them to stay home if they are unwell, or have any signs of cold of flu including a cough, sore/scratchy throat, runny nose, shortness of breath or a fever
  • encourage them to bring along their own water bottle, snacks, utensils, towels, exercise mats or other equipment
  • make them aware of the COVIDSafe app and its benefits to support contact tracing

Before you arrive

  • provide a safety plan for your activities
  • have a strategy in place to manage any related gatherings outside the premises, such as drop-off and pick-up zones or staggered start and finish times

When you arrive

  • ensure all participants register their details for NSW Health contact tracing every time they enter the building – see the instructions at the entry
  • bring hand sanitiser and encourage your attendees to use this on arrival and wash their hands regularly during your booking
  • comply with the venue capacities displayed and that were communicated when you booked

During your booking

  • comply with any capacity requirements for your activity
  • maintain 1.5m physical distance from all people
  • monitor communal areas such as kitchens or foyers to ensure that appropriate physical distancing is in place and within the advised capacity

Hygiene at the venue

  • provide gloves and cleaning detergent or disinfectant for your attendees to use
  • wipe down equipment and key touch points with these before and after use, including alarm pads, light switches, door handles, benchtops, tables and chairs
  • ensure anyone cleaning or reorganising furniture wears gloves and washes their hands thoroughly before and after with soap and water
  • do not use self-service or buffet style for any food provided

Thank you for your patience as we navigate these changes. We look forward to seeing you soon.

For all occasions

We have a great variety of community venues available for hire.

Community venues include rooms, halls and auditoriums that are suitable for either community meetings, conferences, functions or weddings.

Landmark venues

Our landmark venues – the Sydney Town Hall, Paddington Town Hall, Martin Place, City Recital Hall and Customs House – are available to hire for events such as corporate functions, wedding receptions and film shoots.

Compulsory insurance

All parties who hire City facilities must have $10 million public liability insurance coverage. Proof of such coverage is required before your booking can be confirmed.

Individuals and small community groups that do not have public liability insurance may be eligible to apply for cover under the City of Sydney's community engagement liability policy at the following rates:

  • level 1 – venue booking fees under $400 excluding GST: $30 a booking
  • level 2 – venue booking fees between $400 and $1,600 excluding GST: $110 a booking
  • level 3 – venue booking fees over $1,600 excluding GST: $225 a booking.

Our community venues staff can advise the process involved to apply for coverage under the City's policy.

Conditions of hire

We ask that all venue hirers read and understand the City's conditions of hire, which covers:

  • cancellations and insurance
  • noise controls and cleaning
  • security
  • catering and advertising
  • parking, safety and other regulations.

Please note, we require 2 weeks notice to make a booking at a community venue that is not staffed.

Free rehearsal space for students

We have some great spaces available for rehearsal if you’re studying and need a place to jam.

Hiring one of our venues won’t cost you a thing.
