Membership

Library membership is free to all NSW residents, including local people at risk (homeless and refugee status).

Fees apply if you live interstate or overseas

How to join

The easiest way to join is to submit an application form online. You can also pick up an application form at any branch or download and print a copy.

To complete and activate your membership you’ll need to visit any staffed branch and provide proof of identity, including your current permanent address.

Official documents such as a driver's licence, bank statement, rates or utilities notice showing your current residential address are accepted.

How to reactivate your membership

Library memberships expire every 3 years. You can reactivate your membership by visiting a staffed library branch

You will need to provide official proof of your address, as above.

  • access to over 9 million physical and digital books, magazines, newspapers and comics as well as CDs, DVDs, language and makerspace kits
  • borrow up to 30 items for 3 weeks – see category limits 
  • unlimited emovies, emagazines and enewspapers 
  • no overdue fines for all loans 
  • free loan transfers between our branches 
  • free reservation for all items
  • online account to search, reserve and renew loans
  • up to 3 hours of free computer use a day and free wifi in branches 
  • free Skype video and voice calls from our public computers 
  • exclusive member offers and discounts.
