Ultimo Library

Ultimo Library is a vibrant, welcoming library located on level 1 of the Ultimo Community Centre right near the Powerhouse Museum and Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre.

The library is popular with local school children with plenty of spaces to read and study. The dedicated children’s area has regular programming including a bilingual storytime in English and Mandarin.

The library also has a large collection of Chinese language resources.

Portal, a kinetic sculpture in constant colour change was recently installed in the library.

Opening hours

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 10am–6pm
  • Wednesday: 10am–7pm
  • Saturday, Sunday: 12pm–4pm
  • Closed on public holidays.

The after-hours return chute is near the Bulwara Road entrance.

Loans, renewals and returns

  • You can borrow as many as 30 items for as long as 3 weeks.
  • You can renew items online (with your library card number) or you can send an email to library@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au.

    Storytime is a fun session of storytelling and craft for pre-schoolers. The sessions foster an early love of reading and social interaction in readiness for school.

    Suitable for 3 to 5 year olds.

    Come along to our bi-lingual storytime. It’s a fun session of storytelling, rhymes, music, singing and craft for preschoolers.

    Stories are read aloud in both English and Mandarin to support literacy development, foster a love of reading and provide a wonderful cultural exchange.

  • Tech Savvy Seniors - Mandarin Classes

    Get technology on your side by keeping connected, accessing vital services and doing business. Facilitated by leaders from the Ethnic Community Council.

    Funded by the Telstra Foundation and FACS, get savvy using our library PCs and dive into the digital world.

    Introduction to computers: 5 February
    This workshop covers what a computer is, it’s components and how it’s operated. You’ll learn to use a mouse and keyboard and then road test your skills as you create your first document and perhaps do a little web surfing.

    Introduction to internet part 1: 12 February
    Become familiar with the internet basics of getting online and surfing the web. Get well acquainted so you can go home, sign up for an internet service and hang out on the www’s yourself.

    Introduction to internet part 2: 19 February
    Growing your know-how from Part 1, we’ll look at ways to make web navigation a breeze as well as seek out video and music add-ons. We’ll make sure you know how to keep yourself safe online and get you going with tips for the best sites to view online.

    Introduction to email: 26 February
    Keep connected to family and friends with email. We’ll walk you through setting up a free Gmail email account as well as how to send, read and reply to your emails.

    Introduction to social media: 4 March
    Get sharp with social media’s famous three: Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. We’ll take you through a run-down of which social media to use and when.

    Introduction to iPads: 11 March
    We’ll walk you through the techy world of the tablet and get you up and running on this handy device.

    Sessions are free, run for 2 hours and cater for 8 people. Bookings are essential as there are loads of keen learners.
