Improving Macleay Street, Potts Point

We’ll soon start work on improving Macleay Street, Potts Point.

View details

We invite your feedback on plans to upgrade Macleay Street, Potts Point from Orwell Street to Challis Avenue.

Macleay Street is one of the top 10 walking routes in our city’s liveable green network. The upgrade will support walking in the area and help increase passing trade for local businesses.

The proposed improvements include:

  • granite paving from Orwell to Challis streets
  • continuous footpath treatments at Orwell Street, Hughes Street, Crick Avenue, Manning Street and Rockwall Crescent
  • a raised intersection at Greenknowe Avenue and Macleay Street
  • new street furniture and lighting, with 20 bench seats and 6 seating walls
  • 20 bicycle racks and 7 racks on smartpoles
  • more than 44 new garden beds (a total area of 615m2) and 15 new trees.

Over the coming weeks you’ll also see staff from the City’s contractor, Sydney Civil, doing minor site investigation works along Macleay Street.

Sydney Civil staff will speak to businesses along the route to discuss future construction works and will develop a plan to mitigate the impacts if the project is approved.

Community meeting

On Tuesday 19 November from 6pm to 7.30pm, the Lord Mayor and City staff will be at the Rex Centre (58–60 Macleay Street, Potts Point) to discuss the proposal. They will talk to the community about the proposed improvements to Macleay Street and Lawrence Hargrave Reserve.
