Roads and Maritime Services and Transport for NSW have introduced several changes to parking restrictions and tow-away areas during light rail construction.

Find parking space

If you need to bring your car into central Sydney there are a number of parking options available.

Please be aware that special event clearways may be in place.

Car parks

The City operates 2 car parks in central Sydney and Kings Cross and there are a number of off-street car parks also available in the local area.

Parking meters

Around a quarter of the City's on-street parking is metered pay parking that accept coins, credit cards and mobile phone payments. Rates vary depending on the location and time of day or night.

Free 15-minute parking trial

The City has introduced free 15-minute parking in main street retail areas outside the city centre on a trial basis.

Parking permits

If you're a City of Sydney resident or business owner, you may be eligible for a parking permit, which may exempt you from parking time limits and meter fees.

Accessible parking spaces

If you hold a mobility parking permit, you can enjoy free parking for a certain period of time in designated parking zones, which applies to parking zones with meters or ticket machines.

Every parking meter in the local area is inspected, tested and maintained regularly.

If you do encounter one that isn't functioning, call the contact number displayed on the parking meter itself at the time to report it otherwise you may be fined.

Particular areas in The Rocks, Darling Harbour and Pyrmont

The NSW Government has introduced a ticketless and cashless parking scheme in particular areas in The Rocks, Darling Harbour and Pyrmont.

Please check parking signs before you park or check the parking requirements with the appropriate authority.
