Sydney Rides photo competition 2019

Subject matter, curatorial theme

As part of the Sydney Rides photo exhibition, the City of Sydney is exhibiting 30 images that showcase the scenes and stories from the people who ride in Sydney.

We’re inviting artists to submit an image that will engage and intrigue the audience, invoke new perspectives and thoughts about riding a bike.

30 finalists will be selected with their image exhibited at Paddington Reservoir Gardens as part of Sydney Rides 2019.

The judges are looking for images that incorporate the photographer’s skill, individual concept and style to reveal a unique observation.

You may portray any aspect of riding a bike. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • showcasing the people who ride in Sydney
  • physical feelings invoked by riding
  • social connections that riding bike brings
  • views and angles of Sydney seen by bike
  • bikes as a transport mode.

The image must show a reference to a bike, bike rider or other feature, for example, bike lane or bicycle symbol. References can be subtle or in a more obvious manner.

We welcome images in a variety of styles including documentary, portraiture and contemporary art.
